Connect ChatGPT to Charterd
Ask ChatGPT about your Planning jobs, enquiries, bookings, customers and suppliers, and let it make the changes you allow, straight from a chat.
ChatGPT can’t take a pre-filled link yet, so this copies Charterd’s server URL and opens your ChatGPT Plugins page, ready to paste.
Set it up on chatgpt.com in a web browser. In a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin or owner may need to add Charterd for you, or allow you to add it.
- Name
- Charterd
- Description (optional)
- Planning jobs, enquiries, bookings, customers and suppliers in my Charterd workspace.
- Connection: server URL
- https://mcp.charterd.net/mcp
- Authentication
- OAuth
These are the details ChatGPT asks for in Add custom MCP server. Copy each one, or type it in.
Connect in five steps
Have your Charterd login to hand. If you’re signed out of ChatGPT, it asks you to sign in first.
-
Open Add custom MCP server
Select Copy URL and open ChatGPT. On your Plugins page, select + and then Add custom MCP server.
-
Enter Charterd’s details
Name it Charterd and add the description if you like. Under Connection, paste the server URL, which ends in
/mcp. Choose OAuth for authentication. -
Create the plugin
Read ChatGPT’s notice about custom servers, select I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.
-
Install it and sign in to Charterd
Install the Charterd plugin. ChatGPT sends you to Charterd: sign in, choose the workspace, tick what ChatGPT may do and select Approve. You’re then taken back to ChatGPT.
-
Use it in a chat
Start a new chat, type @ and choose Charterd. Then ask ChatGPT anything about your bookings and jobs.
What ChatGPT can do
You decide when you approve the connection on Charterd. Reading is always included. Each kind of change stays off unless you tick it. Your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings can limit it further.
-
Read your workspace
Always included
Planning jobs, enquiries, quotes, bookings, the calendar, customer accounts and suppliers in the workspace you choose.
-
Add and update Planning jobs
Off until you tick it
Create Planning jobs and change their details and movements. Planning never emails customers or suppliers.
-
Change records
Off until you tick it
Enquiries, quotes, bookings, accounts and suppliers. Nobody outside the business is contacted.
-
Contact customers and suppliers
Off until you tick it
Each email is shown to you first and sent only after you say yes in the chat.
-
Bookings, cancellations and invoices
Off until you tick it
Each one is confirmed by you on a Charterd page before it happens.
- ChatGPT can’t delete anything, refund money, or change your settings, users or billing.
- Emails use Charterd’s own templates and go only to the customer or supplier on the record.
- By default each connection can send up to 25 emails and make 10 booking, cancellation or invoice actions a day. Admins can change these limits.
- See or disconnect connected apps at any time in Charterd, under Settings → Connected apps.
What you need
Connecting ChatGPT is part of Charterd Pro.
In Charterd
- A workspace on Pro or Enterprise. The free Pro trial includes it too.
- Your own staff login for that workspace. Customer and supplier logins can’t connect.
In ChatGPT
- A plan that lets you add custom MCP servers. Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces can; on personal plans it depends on the plan.
- In a workspace, an admin or owner may need to add Charterd for you, or give you permission to create plugins from MCP servers.
Try asking
Choose Charterd with @, then write as you would to a colleague.
- @Charterd what’s outstanding in Planning?
- @Charterd which jobs still need a supplier?
- @Charterd what have we got in the calendar next week?
- @Charterd show me the enquiries and bookings for Hillside Academy.
- @Charterd which enquiries are still open?
- @Charterd add a Planning job for a 53-seat coach from Leeds to York on 14 March, returning the same evening.Needs “Add and update Planning jobs”
If something doesn’t work
There’s no Add custom MCP server option
Your ChatGPT plan or workspace doesn’t let you add custom MCP servers. In a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, ask an admin to add Charterd or to give you permission. On a personal plan, check ChatGPT’s help pages for which plans include custom MCP servers.
ChatGPT shows Apps and developer mode, not Plugins
Some accounts still have the older layout. Open Settings, then Apps, turn on Developer mode under Advanced settings, and select Create. Use the same name, server URL and OAuth.
I can’t choose my workspace on Charterd’s page
Only workspaces on a plan that includes connecting ChatGPT can be chosen. The others are listed with the plan they need, and an admin can upgrade in Settings → Billing. You’ll only see workspaces where you have a staff login.
ChatGPT doesn’t use Charterd in a chat
Start a new chat, type @ and choose Charterd before you ask.
ChatGPT can look things up but won’t make a change
Either that kind of change wasn’t ticked when you connected, or your ChatGPT plan or workspace only allows tools that read. To tick more, disconnect Charterd in ChatGPT, connect again and tick it on Charterd’s page.
Charterd’s tools or logo look out of date in ChatGPT
ChatGPT keeps what it found when the plugin was created. Open Charterd on your Plugins page and select Refresh.
